TfL’s Green Bond, so more New Routemasters?

Gambar
Taking a look at the 1 st  July TFL ’ s Commissioner ’ s report, I can reveal that TFL has issued a  £ 400 million  ‘ Green Bond ’  fund on 17 th  April 2015. From the  1st July 2015 Commissioners report Green Bond On 17 April we successfully issued  a  £ 400m Green Bond for 10 years  following a series of meetings with investors. The proceeds of the Green Bond will be allocated to projects from  five different programmes with various environmental benefits , such as  reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality, noise mitigation and others . The project categories  include capacity improvements  and  station   upgrades on Rail and Underground, New Routemaster buses and cycling infrastructure . The yield on the bond, which compares favourably to the equivalent fixed rate for 10 years borrowing from the Public Works Loan Board, provides a  saving of  £ 13m over the 10-year term of the bond . So basica...

London Buses Route 88 to get New Routemasters

Gambar
The original double deck bus with dual staircases. According to LOTS (London Omnibus Traction Society)  they reported: The very first E200MMC to enter service in London was Stagecoach 36601 on the 499 on 30th July. The rest of the  batch are  all here so should follow soon. Other operators in London (e.g. Metroline, Universitybus and Tower Transit) are continuing to take the  ‘ classic ’  E200 bodies.  The first of 26 x  LTs  ( 478)  for  London General route 88 has just been delivered . I also checked the  ‘ London Bus Routes ’  service changes page and nothing has been reported about Route 88 converting to New Routemasters. The official date of conversion is unknown, so it may be a phased conversion because the New Routemasters are reported to be delivered to Stockwell (SW) Garage. Currently Route 88 is operating with Alexander Dennis Enviro400 Hybrids (EH class), so it ’ s not the first route which TFL replaced the exis...

Reading Buses to trial the New Routemaster

Gambar
Just another  New Routemaster  article... Reading Buses is to trial two New Routemaster buses for their  purple route 17  which goes from Tilehurst to Earley. Local newspaper ' Get Reading ' reports: One of Reading's purple buses will be replaced with a London bus as part of a two-week trial. The new Routemaster, which is iconic of London travel, will be in service along the 17 route from Tilehurst to Earley in  August . The Reading Buses summer bus trial is designed to look at new and different types of buses which will shape the company's future vehicle purchasing as well as deciding on interior gadgets and decor. As a key part of the summer bus trials, Reading Buses will be looking to their customers and staff to help format their future thinking on which buses are best. First to impress will be Mercedes which will bring two different lengths of its Citaro bus running on the Loddon Bridge park and ride route. This will be followed by the ‘super fuel efficient...

Update about the hybrid buses for London

Gambar
This is a follow up to one of my  previous articles   in which I briefly touched on the hybrid buses. I have looked at  London Bus Routes  service changes again and they have updated the list which shows there will be more new hybrid buses for various routes in London. Route Operator Hybrid Type Date Commences 14 Go Ahead London Volvo B5LH/Gemini 3 September 2015 47 Stagecoach Unknown 23 rd  January 2016 78 Arriva London Unknown 14 th  November 2016 116 London United Volvo B5LH/Gemini 3 29 th  August 2015 155 Go Ahead London Unknown 12 th  December 2015 295 Metroline Unknown 31 st  October 2015 These hybrid buses are usually purchased by the bus operating company with funding from TFL via their contracts, so the prices of these hybrid buses are usually unknown. The hybrid buses still produce emissions due to the diesel engines which are needed to recharge the battery and help the electric motor to accelerate the bus. I recently came acr...
