Three years since the New Routemaster commenced operation on route 38

Gambar
It’s been three years now since the New Routemaster first entered in to public service on 27 th February 2012, on Route 38. On 27 th February 2012, the first prototype entered in to service was the LT2 (LT61BHT), starting their first journey at lunch time. It attracted many people to come and view the bus but unfortunately the bus became jammed packed because too many people wanted to board it for the ride. The first journey also had some teething problems such as issues with the computer system.  In one case the rear platform had to be shut because the bus wouldn't move off. During its first day in service it was countered by the Unions who raised the issue about the bus being expensive. For their protest they hired an AEC Routemaster (RMC Type) draped with banners on the side of the bus and proceeded to follow the New Routemaster bus. Manuel Cortes, leader of the TSSA transport Union, described the new bus as a ‘vanity project’ . Arriva London became the first operator to oper...

Video of London Buses route 66 in Double Deck operation.

You may be interested that I have captured video of route 66 in action. It uses Wright Gemini 2 VDL DB300 where it was based from Clapton garage (CT). The bus is now currently in Grays (GY) for route 66 and briefly on route 370. You may notice with the double decker routes operated from Grays Garage, you may notice they mix their double deck fleets on route 66 and 370, it does not mean it's official allocation as you see on London Vehicle Finder.  London Buses route 66 now double decker operation by clondoner92 Link to video  (Dailymotion) You may be interested to see other articles relating to Route 66 on this site.  Route 66 conversion is now confirmed by Transport for London Where's the double deckers for route 66?

Route 66 conversion is now confirmed by Transport for London

This is a follow up to my previous article titled " Where's the double deckers for route 66? " Transport for London has confirmed that the Route 66 will be using double deck buses. Likely to be used is the DW's from the cast off's of route 38 and 242. But the Peak vehicle requirement will be reduced from 14 back to 11 buses because London Buses added extra workings onto route 66 because of the capacity of the single deck buses.  From their press release From Saturday 30 August route 66 will convert from single to double deck buses.   Route 66, which is operated by Arriva Kent Thameside, runs from Romford Station to Leytonstone via Romford Market, Chadwell Heath, Newbury Park Station, Gants Hill Station, Redbridge Station and Wanstead Station.   On Saturday the route's 60 capacity single deck buses will be replaced by double deck buses that can carry 87 passengers.   This improvement has been made by Transport for London (TfL) to ensure that all passengers thro...

Route maps of route 66 Screenshot from Traveline Route 66 is a London Buses route that uses the A12 Eastern Avenue road which links from Leytonstone to Romford Station. The route goes parallel to the Central Line stations between Leytonstone to Newbury Park, then it goes towards Romford station. Original date of conversion Originally there were plans to convert the route to double decks by late July, but a new date got moved to 30 th August 2014 as what London Omnibus Traction Society (LOTS ) reported. Bus types would be used? The route would use DW’s (VDL DB300 Wright Gemini 2) from Route 38 and 242 from Clapton(CT) garage . There were rumours that VLW’s (Volvo B7TL Wrightbus Gemini 1) were used to convert route 66. But don’t be mistaken with VLW53/6136 (LF02PSO) that appeared briefly on routes 66 and 370, it is used to replace 6118 which had not appeared since 27 th June 2014 where it left service at 07:50 as what LondonVehicle Finder reported. You can see the video of the VLW53/6...
