Yes, more of these are coming. TFL have issued a new press release about the Red Arrow bus routes 507 & 521, announcing that they're to have electric buses from the autumn next year. Here is the press release: Transport for London ( TfL ) has today (Wednesday 15 July) announced that  two further bus routes, the 507 and 521 , will  operate entirely with electric buses from autumn next year , lowering carbon emissions and helping to improve London's air quality. The 5-year contract to operate the routes has been awarded to  Go  Ahead following a competitive tender process, and will mean that 51 electric buses will operate across the two routes that will become the second and third pure electric bus routes in the Capital. Go Ahead will confirm which manufacturer will supply the buses in due course. By 2020 all 300 single deck buses operating in central London will be zero emission (either electric or hydrogen ) and all 3,000 double deck buses will be hybrid. When fu...

Update for the electric buses for London for routes 16, 69, 312 507 & 521

Gambar
On 4 th  July 2015, LOTS (London Omnibus Traction Society) updated their news page regarding the electric buses for London. They said: Metroline is to get a  BYD K10 all-electric double-deck  in  October for route 16 . The  four all-electric E400s  for  route 69  are now coming later than proposed, probably in  November .  London General’s  two Irizar i2e electric single-decks  should be in service on  507/521 later this month. So firstly, the two Irzar i2e Electric buses will appear on routes 507/521 later in July. They will be joined by the other two electric buses manufactured by BYD, which has been in service since late 2013. Secondly, the ‘ London Bus Routes ’ website has updated their ‘service changes’ page which shows that Route 312 will be fully converted to Metrocity EV electric single deckers by 5 th  September 2015. Thirdly, the ‘world’s first’ purposely built battery powered electric double deck bus w...

Specs for the new BYD Double Deck Electric Bus compared to the New Routemaster

Gambar
Design of the eBus is taken from the specification file. This is another 'follow up' to my  previous article . The previous article became very popular due to the images of the real double deck electric bus that I found. BYD has unveiled the specifications for their double deck electric bus. In the table below you can see the comparison to the New Routemaster, which is hybrid diesel electric. BYD eBus double deck Wright New Routemaster Length 10200 mm 11232 mm Width 2550 mm 2520 mm Height 4400 mm 4420 mm Turning Circle 22.2 m 21m Seated Passengers 54 62 Standees 27* 25* Total Capacity 81* 87* Top Speed 70 km/h 50 mph *Capacity may be different due to the laden weight of the vehicle, which reduces capacity. Looking at the layout and seating plan of the lower deck of the BYD double deck eBus, I could see that it only  has 17 seats,  compared with the New Routemaster which has 22 seats on the lower deck. The reason why the electric double deck bus has less seats on the lower...

2 New Electric buses for London

Gambar
Irizar  and Go-Ahead, London ’ s biggest bus operator, have signed an agreement for two  Irizar  i2e electric buses to be put into operation in London from the end of July. I am unable to copy the text from the press release from  Irizar  because the PDF file is from images instead of text, so you can view it  here . From Route One magazine: By placing electric buses in the UK,  Irizar  not only shows its  “ capacity for adapting to the needs of markets and operators ”  but also  “ reaffirms its intention of positioning itself as market leader in urban mobility with the firm commitment to contribute to the sustainability and improvement of city environments. ”  That ’ s the key message from the manufacturer ’ s Spanish  HQ . It follows last month ’ s announcement that two  Irizar  i2e electric buses are to go into operation in central London.  Irizar  and Go-Ahead, London ’ s biggest bus operator with ...
